This tour provides a thorough overview of the highlights of Luang Prabang in a short time, and can easily be combined with trips to other destinations in Southeast Asia. This magnificent World Heritage Site boasts countless mosaic-covered temples sprinkled along the banks of the Mekong River, and the quiet charm of the town makes it most visitors’ favorite. Rise early to observe the monks in their morning meal procession; you can participate by buying rice in a traditional basket and helping distribute it to the line of patient monks. That same day, head to the Pak Ou caves, where Buddha images have been carefully hidden in the limestone cliffs. Your last day is at leisure to continue your exploration of Luang Prabang independently or simply relax at your resort and then transfer to the airport for your departure flight. This is simply a suggested itinerary and can easily be customized to suit your schedule, budget, and interests.

Day 1: Arrive Luang Prabang (D)
Upon arrival in Luang Prabang, you will be transferred to your hotel. In 1995 UNESCO declared the entire town of Luang Prabang a World Heritage Site. Nestled in the mountains at the confluence of the Mekong and Khan Rivers, this former royal capital is one of the most delightful towns in all of Asia. Small enough to explore on foot, the town reveals its charm and history at every turn, with gilded temples on nearly every corner and saffron robed monks strolling the quiet streets. The local markets offer produce, as well as silver and textiles; Hmong tribeswomen come here to shop.
Today, begin to explore this charming town, starting with a visit the National Museum at the former Royal Palace, which displays a lovely collection of artifacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture throughout the ages. We then climb up to the top of Mount Phousi to explore the sacred, gilded stupa as well as capture a beautiful view of the city and the Mekong River at sunset. From there, we visit the Night Market, where you can browse through a lovely selection of handmade textiles. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 2: Luang Prabang – Pak Ou cave (B/L/-)
An optional early start gives you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily morning alms giving to saffron-clad monks. This tradition is unique to Laos, being the only Buddhist nation still preserving this procession.
After breakfast, we enjoy a short-guided tour of the city's oldest temple, Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong where you can see the impressive “tree of life” mosaic set in colored glass. We then board an upstream cruise on the Mekong River, which gives us a panoramic view of the tranquil countryside. We’ll make sure to stop at the Pak Ou Caves, sanctuaries consisting of two large caverns, both repositories for thousands of Buddha images. We will also stop at a few villages during the day, including Ban Xanghai where the local rice wine is produced and Ban Xiengmene and Ban Chan. Once back in Luang Prabang city we take a short drive to Ban Xang Khong and Ban Xieng Lek - small villages well known for silk weavings and Saa (jute) Papermaking. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 3: Luang Prabang – Departure (B)
There will be free time to venture into town and stroll around the shopping areas. The tour ends after your transfer to the airport for departure.
